Day of Defeat is the latest online action experience from Valve, makers of Half-Life and Counter-Strike. Stationed in the heart of WWII's European Theater of Operations, players join the ranks of an elite military squad. Missions are based on key historical battles. And, as war rages, squads must battle as a unit to achieve victory.

The game is very similar to Counter-Strike and Half-Life as it maintains the game style but displays completely different graphics. The environment is different and the weapons look like they did back then.
Compared to Half-Life, Day of Defeat brought a series of enhancements and innovations that made the game more balanced. The weapon recoil was realistic and you also had a stamina bar that showed you how much you can sprint.
The gameplay is mostly based on online matches, as the game benefits from a huge online community that's constantly improving base map and create new ones.NOTE:Day of Defeat Mod for Half-Life is commercialware and it can no longer be downloaded. You can buy it on Steam.
